Who Is The Fattest Cat In The Neighbourhood

Jodie is a very fat cat. Her colour is orange and she feels a bit
like a mother to all the other cats. Jodie is very proud of her fatness
but she is also keen on staying humble about it. She spends quite a lot
of time thinking about what to do. One morning she knew. She was going
to gather all the cats in the neighbourhood and announce a competition
in fatness. If she wins, which she think she will do, nobody is to say
anything if she goes on about it. If she wins she has the right to be
proud of her fatness, and to show that she is proud too.
Jodie runs around all day long telling everyone she wants to meet them
later in the evening. It is quite a lot of work telling everyone
because some cats are out hunting, fighting or just running during the
day. But Jodie figures that if she just stays on a spot from where she
has an overview over each cats house, she will eventually see them all
come around. She is not finished until midnight but by then everyone
knows and has joined the crowd in the square.
Jodie reveals her planned competition and immediately a couple of the
thinnest cats start booing. "Why is it always the fat cats that are
setting the rules", they mewed while jumping down from their seats and
rushing away into the dark.
One fat catlady started clapping her paws. "Bravo" she shouted on which
Jodie smiled, looking pleased. "Then it?s settled", she said softly
while smiling secretly. "I?ll meet you in the same place, at the same
time, Saturday in two weeks. May the best cat win".
Now any human being who visited this particular neighbourhood during
the next two weeks would have noticed several cats laying completely
still, sleeping or with their eyes open.
It was already Saturday morning. Jodie opened her eyes widely, feeling
expectant. She did her morning stretch as usual, but very slowly,
avoiding to burn more calories than absolutely necessary.
Ten a?clock that evening she began walking towards the square. On her
way there she saw something shocking. The three cats who had left the
square earlier because they didn?t like the competition was being
served cream by a human being. A woman was actually pouring cream into
a bowl and must have been doing so for the whole two weeks because the
three cats were now just as beautifully fat as Jodie herself. Maybe
even more beautifully fat, Jodie thought and shivered from
horror.
Later that evening Jodie had to endure a performance to the bitter end.
The audience could not decide which one of the three cats was the
fattest so they decided to let them all end up in first place. To make
matters even worse the three of them were given credits for their
remarkable development since only two weeks ago. And poor old Jodie was
not even mentioned.
