Mother Earth
As i lay upon the earth at night,
and look up to the stars so bright.
I wonder what could lie beyond,
this world, of which, we are so fond.
This world so blue, and green, and fair,
of which we show so little care.
We soil her with our very touch,
yet she who cares for us so much.
To hear the birds in summer song,
i wonder, where did we go wrong.
With beauty all around to see,
how blind, how careless can we be.
She feeds us, clothes us, tends our needs,
we starve and rape her through our greed.
These words may hurt but still are true,
god help us all when we are through.
The time is here if we should heed,
her cries in this her hour of need.
As she to all does try reveal,
the way in which our world to heal.
Look at the sun in all its might,
hear birdsong sung with high delight.
See raindrops quench her thirst anew,
watch flowers bloom for me and you.
Hear the wind and watch it play,
with leaves on trees and fresh cut hay.
Then touch the earth beneath your feet,
and feel within the worlds heartbeat.
This world is old in our short term,
and oh we have so much to learn.
For lessons learnt but soon forgot,
she will be here and we will not.
