All or nothing

He isn't interested, he says,
to make a friend out of a lover,
he says the sooner I recover
the better, if I take the blame.
But all and nothing are the same.

Inadequate: reaction nil.
He screams to scare me to my senses,
and cries to cancel my defences
but no. Despite him, I stay still.
And get away I will. I will.

His words are quicker to expire.
For all we had and what remains,
for nothing, promises and games,
for what was once a joint desire,
for all or nothing I retire.
