I Dreamed I Saw Gethsemane

I dreamed I saw Gethsemane,
The Saviour kneeling there
Was not praying for the innocents
But for those who did not care.
I heard him cry for despots,
I saw him pray for peace.
He wept and wailed for murderers,
Thieves, and war which would not cease.
In his Fathers many mansions
Lived kind people wise and good,
While on earth only human, still,
They were not of Satans brood.
Why then? I asked an Angel
Would he the Devils minions save?
Or rescue those who black the rose
To rob a free mans grave?
The Angel said all men are free
To follow bad or good,
The true and wise attain the prize
And thus avoid the flood.
Evil in a sinners heart
Can by God alone be purged,
And he must die,ere the sun is high
That repentance may be urged.
My sleep was broke by sunlight
It filled my lonely prison cell
And I shed a tear that one so dear
Would die,to keep me safe from Hell.
