Autumn of '85

All my life
Proud father and a friend
And I, his only son
Too proud to comprehend
But one day came a change
My uncle tried to say
The words poured from his eyes
"God's taken Dad away"
Do you remember the Autumn of '85?
Or only that the sun shone?
Tears fall so fast
They say all that you feel
Sitting alone
In a cemetery field
"Friends" just don't know
What to do or to say
You need them most
Most of them stay away
Do you remember the Autumn of '85?
Or merely that the rain fell?
Some choose to hurt
Though the victim is low
Scars of the mind
Will remain but no show
Wait for the bait to return
Result: Hate
Cold blood returns
But their "sorry"'s too late
Do you remember the Autumn of '85?
Or solely that the leaves died?
Life must go on
Though you feel you have aged
Older and wise
Body: years; Mind: decades
Seconds elapse
Further into the past
Just memories now
But how memories last!
Do you remember the Autumn of '85?
Or was it all too normal?
