'You know somethin', if it feels like it's no' right, then trust in yer inner emotional barometer'.
'Am fine, pal. Dinny keep oan aboot it, eh? Consider the subject closed'.
Vinnie was tryin' desperately to ease the conversation away from his love life. Not everyone gets married, or lives together, do they.
It all started when Vinnie met this burd.
She was a beaut. A little bit too good to be true, is how Vinnie saw it. And. He was swept off his size 9's immediately.
They had literally bumped into each other. He, pushin' through the double doors at police station. He was collecting his wallet, dropped absent mindedly the night before.
'Oh. Sorry'. Louise stopped pushing at the glass, and allowed Vinnie to hold said door, as she hurried past.
The first thing he noticed, was her scent. It catapulted him into next week! Wow. What WAS that. Then her pretty hands. She wore red nail varnish. A diamond on her right hand. Whew. Not married then. Blonde, curling hair. Cute face. Smart as ..
'Nae bother'. Vinnie stood aside, watching the woman walk into the busy street. Quick as a flash, Vinnie had an idea to keep this person in his sights.
''scuse me, bu' ur you the person tha' handed ma wallet in tae lost property? A hope so, then a kin offer ti buy you a cup o' coffee'.
'Wasn't me, but thanks for the offer. I sure could do with one'.
Vinnie found himself walking at her pace, easing into the situation, determined to find out more about this pretty girl.
'Would yi HUV time. For a drink. Wi' mi'. Why am l talkin' like this?!
'I do, but l don't. I mean, l don't usually get picked up outside a cop shop. Or anyplace, really!'
'Well, let's go wi' that thought, eh?! If you feel uncumfy, jist dial 999. 'Help. Polis'? There's a weirdo in ma midst'! Is tha' a deal?!'
Louise was smiling. One cuppa wouldn't cause any harm. She could do with a break for a little while. And he seemed like a genuine guy.
They walked past a few pubs, and ended up in a newly opened tea room nearby. They chose a table, and taking off jackets, glanced at each other. It seemed as if they were old friends, at ease in the corner of the candle lit room. She was a good listener, looking into Vinnie's eyes as he chatted endlessly about his two great passions, fitba' an' his boy. Gawd. Normally lassies glaze over, stifling a yawn. Not Louise tho'. She seemed enthralled by his chattering.
After drinking two cups of coffee, they exchanged telephone numbers, but not much from Louise in the way of personal info. Vinnie needed to know he could see her again, as he was totally captivated by this gentle, softly spoken girl. Such a sadness behind those beautiful, brown eyes. She was holding something inside, in her soul.
What, he didn't know.
