Jeremy got in the car and drove away. Amelia watched as he disappeared from her view. Tears came down her face. Ugh what have I done? I can’t believe I actually fell for Tyler. I have known him for one day and I…. Amelia kicked a rock. It hit her father’s tire and bounced off. “Damn,” she said.
“Amelia.”
Amelia saw Tyler from the corner of her eyes. She groaned. “What Tyler?”
“Look I’m sorry. I was too quick,” Tyler said looking at the ground.
“It’s not your fault, I shouldn’t have let you do that; but I don’t want to ever talk to you again,” Amelia said and walked away.
“Amelia I said I was sorry,” Tyler said following her and pulling her hands.
Amelia pulled away. “I just got dumped by my boyfriend. Can you please have some sympathy for me and leave me alone.”
“Come on…” Tyler said.
“Tyler, I am not the only girl in school! Find another one. Do something, but just leave me alone,” Amelia shouted.
“What’s wrong with me?” Tyler asked.
“Nothing. You just seem to be trouble,” Amelia mumbled and walked into her house. She walked past the living room where her father was still talking to William. Amelia went upstairs in her room and locked the door. She looked out the window and saw Tyler going into his house and slamming the door.
Amelia picked up her cell phone and dialed Jeremy number. He did not answer so Amelia left a message. “Hey Jeremy, this is Amelia. I’m sorry for what happened a few minutes ago. Can you give me a call so I can settle this in person? Thanks, bye. I love you.”

Amelia drove to school. She went inside and tried looking for Josh. She asked a few students where he was but they just shook their heads and said they had not seen him either.
“Hey Amelia is it true that Jeremy dumped you?”
Amelia rolled her eyes. It was Sarah, the most annoying girl in the whole world. She always had a crush on Jeremy. Amelia turned around. “Sarah. Do me a favor. Stop being an asshole.”
Sarah put her hands to her mouth. “Oh my gosh. You just cursed. When did you start cursing?” She laughed. Hee hee heee hee hee. “Wow you and Jeremy must have gotten into a really big fight.”
Amelia walked away from her and into her first class. She never heard a word about what the teacher was saying. In History class, her grade for the test was horrible. It was bellow 70.
In the cafeteria, she sat alone and ate nothing.

After a few days, Jeremy came back to school. Amelia tried talking to him but he ignored her or said that he was busy.
Amelia felt a big cloud of gloom starting to form over her head. She often felt lonely and wouldn’t talk to anybody. Her friends had dumped her also because she was no longer popular. Whenever she passed in the hall, girls would start whispering about her then laugh. Amelia didn’t care though.
One day she was sitting alone in the cafeteria when a girl came and sat with her. She wore red jeans, white t-shirt, and a bow on her head.
Amelia looked at her and raised an eyebrow.
“Hey. I am Katie and you are Amelia; nice to meet you,” Katie said and extended her hand for a shake.
Amelia solemnly shook it. “Nice to meet you too,” she mumbled.
“I’m sorry about Jeremy and you. I heard about it and it is like so heartbreaking. Not like I ever had a boyfriend before, but it still looks so depressing when somebody is dumped. Once I almost had a boyfriend but this girl named Sarah said that I still pee in my pants at night so he never asked me out. I cried for days and would not talk to Sarah. Actually, come to think of it, I never talk to her. She is so annoying. I think she is trying to ask Jeremy out. Is that weird or what? I believe that boys should be the only ones to ask girls out and not the other way around.”
“What if the boy is really shy or something like that?” Amelia asked.
Katie shrugged. “Then I guess that will be accepted.”
From then on, Katie became Amelia’s best friend.

“Hey Amelia. How was your day?”
“It was okay dad,” Amelia answered coming into the house.
“Why do you look so gloomy?” her dad asked.
Amelia shrugged. “Just tired.”
“I was wondering,” her dad said and coughed nervously. “If you would like to…umm…” he cleared his throat. “If you would like to see you mother.”
Amelia stopped in her track. “Excuse me?”
“Do you want to go see your mother in the summer?” her dad asked looking away.
“Sure dad! You know I am okay with that but are you? You guys haven’t spoken in years,” Amelia said.
“It wasn’t that long,” dad said shaking his head.
“Actually it was.”
“No. I am sure it wasn’t. Hon I should know.”
Amelia rolled her eyes and said, “Whatever dad.”
“So if you’re okay with it. We will see her in one month. You can bring a friend along if you want,” her dad said and wrote something on his little calendar that was just on the kitchen table.
“I’ll bring Katie, if that’s okay with you.”
“The talkative girl?” he asked. He imagined suitcases and bags all over in the car, on their drive to Florida, and Katie talking non-stop. And how he would try to stop her mouth but he would be out of reach because of the bags.
Amelia nodded and she heard her father groaned. She smiled.
