Indian Girl, Little

Little Bear was seven year old when her and her family were forced
to leave their tribe after a fight between the chief and her father.
She was called Little Bear, because after she was born a little bear
was what her parents saw straight afterwards. Her family was one of
fourteen in the tribe and she lived with her mother, father and three
siblings Big Bear, Fast River and Wise Bird (had seen an owl). After
being kicked out they had been in so much disgrace that they decided to
leave America for good and went into the main city in some borrowed
clothes to somehow get their way to England.
They approached the airport, which was a thing they had once been
scared of.
"How much to England", said her father asking someone at the booking
office.
"$120 per person." He replied.
Her dad pulled a shocked face and then walked off leaving his families
only option as to follow him.
"Where are we going to go now Papa?" asked Little Bear.
"We are going to try at what they call a port and test our luck there.
We have little money as it is."
So they went to the port.
"How much is it to England, sir?"
"$90."
"Do you have any job offers?" said her father in desperation.
"By a matter of fact we do. We need some people to help around in the
kiosks and whatever. They will be paid $5 an hour."
"Could we please have them, because we need to go to England. My
daughter here," said her father pointing to Little Bear, " is very good
at maths."
"Okay you have them," and with that he led them over to a shed where he
handed them some uniform.
Little Bear did some calculations and figured out they needed to make
$360. That would mean 12 hours each. They already had $150, but they
needed some money for after they got there.
After a day they had quite a lot of money and her father had got a
promotion already. He was going to make $10 and hour. Her father said
they would work there for a week. At night they stayed in a hotel that
the port kindly paid for after father told them their story.
"Finally they had enough money to be comfortable in England for a week
or so in which time her father was going to find a job aswell as her
mother when the children had schools to go to.
Finally the boat set sail for England. It was a long journey but Little
Bear had never had such a good time. They had had a discount as they
were staff so they had a little more money than expected. After what
seemed like years the boat pulled into the dock at Dover and an excited
Little Bear jumped down from the little bridge.
"I need to go and get some British passports and we need to change our
names." Said father. "My name will be Robert, mama's will be Sarah,
Little Bear yours is Mary , Big Bear you are John, Wise Bird you are
Ken and Fast River you are Thomas."
"Hopefully we can have a better life here!"
