A Sister's Bond
Huddled in a corner with a child in her arms.
Her tears fall silently waiting for the calm.
The bedroom door aching to drown out the noise,
The child whispers softly in her weary quizical voice.
Awoken by the shouting, doors slamming hard.
"Are Mummy and Daddy shouting,
have I done something bad?"
Her arms hold her tighter, protecting her from this night.
"Everything will be ok, even grown-ups have fights."
Hoping the little one will fall asleep in her arms,
silently always promising to keep her safe from harm.
Faint voices she hears coming up from below,
isn't the place children should feel safe, their home?
Thankfully nights like this happening were rare,
but the bond of two sisters will always be there.
