The Monster

The wind whispered softly in her ear
It was the most beautiful sound she was ever to hear
The chiming of bells tinkle so lightly blown
By a roar and a shake as the monster did moan
And it grew from the depths of the dirty old cave
Like a hand and an arm rising out from the grave
And it swayed slightly forward like a zombie on mud
The creature walked forward. Thud. Thud. Thud.
It leaped and it danced until it was used to the light
As it towered above we could see its great height
And as it stumbled forward it seemed quite polite
With just a sniff and a nod it was off in the night
The monster was gone, with just a whispered goodbye
If we needed to find him we know where he lie.

The sharpening of claws could be heard in the woods
As the creature reached high it knew that it should
Stretch out its body to wake itself right
To make sure it was ready for the forthcoming fight
Promised to it by the mischievous fox
Who lived in the city and slept in a box
But the monster knew it was only a trick
He knew they intended to take the mick.
And as the other sane creatures flocked
They would see the scene and be frightfully shocked
By his hideous body and gruesome face
But he would show them all. His excellent grace.
And with a lunge and a dash and a fabulous mace
The opponent for sure would be out of the race.

The weather was bleak as he looked at the sky
The monster thought to himself oh I wish I could fly
But things such as gravity got in his way
He would have to save this dream for another kind of day
One where such dreams did come true
One where he would live to play a kangaroo
At a game of marvellous chess
Oh how such a mess
His brain must be to think of such ideas
As the rain goes on pouring and leers
And laughs at his thoughts
Yes he would have to wait for a day of another kind
Hoping that day will not be too hard to find
IV
He dashed and he leaned and put forward a fight
That would give any creature a definite fright
But this creature was mean and tougher than thought
It’s as if the creature had been heavily taught
And the mace did no damage as the wolf it did swerve
Even though it swung in a fabulous curve
But it crashed through the air only hitting bare space
A look of menace prominent across the wolf’s ancient face
And the bitterness was there as if he’d done something wrong
But it did not take long
For the wolf to bite back and leave quite a scar
This fight the monster knew had gone way too far
But he knew he was trapped in this insolent square
The only one that could help now was his friend the white hare
She saw he was in trouble so forward she hopped
And without a moments hesitation forced the fight to be stopped.

The mouse peered timidly at the hairy old monster
Back to work Sarge yelled before they call you a concher
The sarge took charge and ordered the mice
Pausing a moment to itch away lice
And that’s when he saw him, he saw the creature
He’d seen nothing like it, not even a feature
He ordered his men to gather round quickly
The sight they saw found them rather too sickly
He told them to be brave and stand up to their fear
They’d conquered other challenges like hunting the deer
So they could do this now
Like finishing battles and beating the cow
But the mice were too wimpy they didn’t have the fight
So they turned on their heels and ran into the night.
