Witnessing a friends pain
By Laura Callender

Shadows lurking in murky places
Splashes of sunlight attempting to break through
The anger and bitter darkness that stays firm
Deep thoughts of revenge penetrate
Even in the shadows of those around you
Influenced by the negative energy you project
Time past and passing as pointless and destructive
As an earthquake felling buildings and cities alike
Distance has created emptiness
Allowing a space for the bitterness to ferment
Dangerously out of control you project pain yet vulnerability
Glistening on the surfaces surrounding you.
Your eyes hide the frustration and longing
To hold on to your loved one, to nurture and protect
Your angry words only softened by the welcome
Mental picture of your beautiful child that is currently without you
But the shadows, time, darkness, and strength you have
Will form a bond and determination for you and her to one day
Love eternally
