Roommate

Clothes scattered on the floor, books toppling onto the
ground,
Papers, wrappers, notebooks and empty Coke cans,
Lying lonely and abandoned.
Shrill shrieks of the telephone during my
sleeping hours,
missing chocolate and used towels.
She deserves what she gets.
Brian,
A boy she's been dying to hear from.
Too bad for him, he called on the day I snapped.
Is she there, when will she be home?
Car accident,
her mother's in the hospital,
she moved back home to be close to her family.
Satisfaction humming through my body,
I replace the phone and turn on the television.
She walks in the door and wants to know if Brian's called.
Nope, I say.
And smile as I turn back to the television,
his phone number in the garbage disposal.
Brian did call.
They say revenge is sweet.
I smile.
