Chartered Streets

Down those streets too, a man must go:
among the tarnished and fearful;
in the Square Mile, where grotesque
and greedy uncommon men
rise above every infant's
cry of abject fear.
We need a Marlowe, and not a Kit:
a knight, a crusader for our
mildewed Metropolis, still under spells
and fiscal incantations, bound
through venal vicissitudes to
money's true colour.
