Waiting
I'm waiting for death to make its move
corner me in my doctor's examining room
to appear as a suspicious spot on an x-ray
a high white cell count in my blood work
I'm waiting for it to checkmate me
between my health insurance
and sick time not used on the job yet.
I'm waiting for it to tell me.
You've used all your options
go see a lawyer straighten out your affairs
I'm not playing games here.
It's too late to start living right
throw out those cigarettes
stop eating red meat.
I waiting for it to laugh about
that second opinion
that ace in the hole
that saved me a few times before.
I'm waiting for those pain pills
not to work,
the bleeding not to stop
I'm waiting.
