Hollow

Intertwined and interwoven,
Like the lyrics of a song
Or a shiny, silky ribbon
Round a beaded, leather thong
I hear the jingle as they dangle
Of the bangles on your wrist
My moan mingles with their jangle
As at last, these lips are kissed
At once your arms are cast across me
As I lie here mystified
Believe if anyone could see us
Think we'd just been crucified.
What's that subtle hint of fragrance
That recalls another day?
I smile behind my eyelids, roll
Through sheets of new mown hay.
Within those eyes begin exploring
Down through corridors of mind
Every room door standing open
While past images unwind
But all too soon your body rises
And you stand to face the day
I wince over on one shoulder
Concede you have to go away
* * * * *
I lie hollow in this half-light
Stagnant, dismal at the core
Eyes gripped tight against the blackness
Till I hear you close the door.
