Land of Sleep

Oh please let me go to the Land of Sleep
Wade into the waters both dark and deep
Swim with the fishes in the clear blue sea
Then climb to the top of the tallest tree.
Let me stroll 'neath the palms on that silvery strand
Where a dusky maiden leads me by the hand
With my South Seas siren I could sing so well
I'd drink rum from her coconut ; eat meat rom her shell.
Might we giggle? Might we laugh? Might we run? Might we play?
She doesn't understand a single word that I say
Let me follow where the sun loves the sky; loves the sea.
Am I running after her? Is she chasing after me?
Let me marvel at the moon and the stars that shine so bright
Her eyes, they flash at mine through the campfire light !
Then just before the day breaks when the sun peeks back in view
Let me wake up in the morning and be lying next to you.
