Cooper Temple Clause, The - See This Through...

Um, interesting hair. You knew that. But there's more to the Reading
rockers than an exotic line in head decoration. Oh, yes, a lot more. As
evidenced in singles 'Film Maker', 'Been Training Dogs', 'Who Needs
Enemies?' and 'Let's Kill Music', and also there for all to hear on
debut LP 'See This Through and Leave'.
Album opener 'Did You Miss Me?' starts off hauntingly, then descends
into a feverish blitz of white noise. 'Film Maker' is brilliant - one
of the album's standout tracks - with a typically fantastic vocal from
singer Ben Gautrey, including a perfectly snarled "I'd have made you
look fucking beautiful".
Fierce, and fantastic, single 'Let's Kill Music' contains great lyrics
("We dare you to mean a single word you say?It seems we're the ones
who've got the guts to bleed/It's not number one who will come out
alive/It's the freak in the corner with his eyes on fire/Let's kill
music/Before it kills us all").
Final track, 'Murder Song' is as dark as its title suggests, finishing
the record as hauntingly as it started. Well, with suicide as its
subject matter, what would you expect?
Ultra cool, they most certainly are. The delightfully named bassist
Didz Hammond practically oozes the cool factor from his every pore, and
then of course there's those hair 'sculptures'. But there's no need to
worry. There's musical brains of genius behind those pretty faces (not
content with being merely a guitarist, Tom Bellamy also seems to play
just about every other instrument under the sun), and they've combined
to not only entertain us with stories of rock star drunken excess and
cum v blood debates but also one hell of a debut album. All hail The
Coopers. Long may they reign.
'See This Through and Leave' is available now on Morning records. New
album 'Kick Up the Fire, And Let the Flames Break Loose' is released on
8th September 2003, preceded by the single 'Promises, Promises' on 1st
September. Find out more about TCTC:
