Snow

Snow, falling from the darkness
As I drive. Through the glow of
My headlights it passes. Like a
Million tiny specks of light, it
Hurls toward me out of the night.
Mesmerized, I am in danger of
Losing myself, as I fall under its
Hypnothic spell. I must keep my
Eyes on the road, but......the snow
Draws me in, compelling me to
Give myself over to it.
Suddenly, the snow is all I know,
And it's as if the rest of the world
Never exhisted. A mere faded
Image in my mind, I'm hardly aware
Of its presence anymore. The snow
Is all that matters now. And as it
Fills every sense of my being, I am
Unaware, I am the snow. Nothing
Crosses my mind, for I have no mind,
Only the peace of my existance.
And then, with a sudden jolt, I
Snap back to the world from which
I came. Snow no longer, I realize
Now the danger I was in, as I could
Have ultimately driven to my doom.
All is well, but.....the snow is calling
Me back, demanding that I return.
I must fight to.....keep my eyes
On the road.
Over and over, I slip away and
Pull myself back, resisting the snow's
Powerful force. And as I drive on I
Wonder, what if, in one of those moments
Of absence, I should leave this world?
