Restraint
The word 'Restraint' lay in his pocket
Like a scribbled word on a crumpled paper.
He never gave a thought to
The pleasures that he was taking
In the fun and frolic and the puffs
And the smoke tasted so good
The nicotine and the white stuff
And the mad group, he favoured.
Soon he was dragged further
And found pleasures in the pricks
Of the needle. Life he thought to be
So wonderful, within the smoke filled room.
One day he came out of his pleasures chamber
And landed on the medicos door,
Pleasure had given way to pain
And made him lame, from where
It was not easy to return.
It would have made a difference
If 'cautions' nudge had caught him
To make a 'Restraint'.
