THE SCHOOL BREAK
The gong went,
Sprint,
Out from the classrooms,
With lunch boxes,
Clutched in their hands,
They ran out
To get their places.
Seated on the mat,
The lids
Slowly open,
Small tiny hands,
Lay grip of
The home-made food.
The fingers rise,
To feed
The open mouths,
Then chewing,
And down it goes
Into its place,
Again open mouths
To take in
Another bite.
Some share
With friends,
Some don't even
Open their boxes
But rush out to play
Forgetting their food.
Some take a few bites,
And leave the rest,
Exactly
In the place,
That it was in.
The gong goes again,
The boxes close,
Children brush their clothes,
Wipe their mouths,
The water bottle,
Quenches their thirst
With its contents.
Feet trample the mat,
And again,
They
Sprint back,
To their classrooms,
At the sitting benches.
