Isolation Hair.

At work and around the Village I have seen isolation hair. There were also funny ones on Facebook. I work with Gerry her hair is usually two inches long all year round, last week when I worked with her, she had her mail delivered at work, after she opened it, she showed me what it was, it was everything you needed to cut your own hair! Gerry said, “My hair is so long!” I smiled and said, “For you it is.” She is going to get her Mum to cut her hair, I can’t wait to see it.
A month ago, another co-worker had his hair cut at his regular barbers. He told me, “The shutters were down, and it was by appointment only.” His well-groomed hair was a dead giveaway! He really stood out, he looked smart, with the smart, crisp, sharp, lines around the sides of his head. I asked him, “Did he charge you the same price?” He said, No, Double, but it was worth it.”
There are three of us at work who half of the year or more, we wear hats. Bridie, hers is a trilby, Harry’s his is a beanie and mine is a beret. Everyone is used to us wearing our hats, it’s our characters, and if the three of us was to swop hats they would not suit the other person.
To stop me wearing my hat all the year round, I have hair extensions put in, as I usually just have them done twice a year, as it’s not cheap. With the hair extensions put it, it makes me feel much better, builds my confidence, as I have lots of nice comments and I don’t wear a hat.
When lockdown started, I didn’t have my hair extensions in, I’d saved up and was thinking of booking an appointment. But then the world as we knew it changed. I had the hair at home. So, I decided to have a go. I’d never done it before, I work with a lovely person called Rosie, she had paid a bomb two years ago to have hers done by a hairdresser, and it looked terrible! I didn’t tell her that of course, I just said, “It looks really nice.” Then a few months later, I saw her again, and her hair looked amazing! I said to Rosie, “Your hair looks amazing” She said with a broad grin, “Thank you, I did it myself.” I then said, honestly, “It looks better than when the shop did it.” She said, “I know lots of people have told me, now that I’ve done it, I will do my own hair extensions from now on.”
As I had everything I needed, for the hairdresser to do my hair, I decided to take the plunge and do it myself. I put Catharine Cookson on, and with a mirror in front of me, I made sure I had chosen a day off when I wasn’t tired and if need be, I could carry on the next day. I started. I took my time. In total it took me three hours! If a job is worth doing its worth doing well.
When I was finished, I had a proper look and cut the ends, I was very pleased with the results. I had a sense of achievement.
Two days later I went to work, no one noticed that I’d had my hair ‘done’ because they are used to seeing me with a hat, or with extensions or with my own hair. So, the good news was, that my hair didn’t stand out and didn’t look like I had done it myself. I did my hair again two weeks later, and in my mind, I had managed to improve on it. It was tighter.
My hairdresser text me a few days ago and said “The Health Minister has said hair salons will have to open in a phased manner provided it is safe to do so. The date they have given to re-open will be around the 4th of July, it may or may not be difficult to get an appointment at first due to high demand, but the plan it to try and sort out my loyal customers as soon as I can from that date.”
I replied to her text, “Lovely to hear from you, I can’t wait to have my hair done.” I thought I wonder how many of her loyal customers would have gone underground to have their hair done by someone else. I think there is always someone who will pay and accept payment for a price. But would it be worth dying for? Yes, it would be a very good time to make money, double the amount and get a wage of 80%. I had decided to ring Jayne today to ask her to book me in an appointment. Then I remembered why I didn’t ring and book an appointment when she texts me, it’s because deep down, I think July it far too soon. I think for me November I will feel safer, or even better next year.
I don’t see the point of rushing things.
