Long overdue - Inspiration point

The tiny ant crawled through the grass, it was morning and spring
time, dew had settled in the late hours of the night, and now just
after dawn, water droplets impeded his progress.
"Ow, I'm going to be late, Gretchin won't be happy!"
He struggled on down a blade, jump, up a blade. Every now and again,
Gunter the an,t had to take lengthy detours around the water droplets.
Finally he reached Gretchin's ant hole, he shouted for her to answer,
but she had gone. Then he noticed the written note, it said; "Had to
leave without you, late already and getting to the ant fair will take
so long over dew."
Gunter sat and sobbed, what an appalling waste of time this exercise
had all been, and for what?
