Love and Darkness
She thought it was curious that she seemed to love him more strongly when he felt far away. She lay on her back in the darkness she could hear him breathing as he slept beside her, but still there was an underlying sensation that he may as well been a million miles away, which caused her to miss him despite their proximity.
In their bed, in complete darkness, she lay between sleep and consciousness, succumbing to a feeling of weightless. It was as though she wasn't real, but perhaps only a thought floating around in the vacuum of infinity. And here in the dark she felt without substance, but only the product of synapse and neurons that trigger thoughts, the response of life without physical expectations.
Then from a million miles away she is pulled back down to earth landing unexpectedly back to her mattress and pillow when his warm hand comes down upon her naked belly. In the darkness she loved him with familiarity and a calming sense of singularity, despite the distance she felt in her mind. She held him tender in her dreams and memories. It was these dreams and memories that merged to heighten her experiences. She had realized from the very first time they met that these moments were bound to come true.
She recalled the days following their initial meeting how she resisted him because she fell in love with him too soon. She was overcome with emotion so quickly that she knew immediately that her life had been altered forever.
His gazes at her were undeniable distinct, and then he would go on to pretend (very badly) not to pay any special attention to her. At these times she was reminded of their inevitable future.
She further recalled the first time that she placed her hand to his arm, and how she tried not to blush as his posture straightened slightly and his muscles tensed.
It would be a few weeks later that they would be alone together, sitting in on the floor of her living room. A solitary candle lit the room and served as the only light in the universe that they were subject too. Again at this time she had the uncanny feeling that this had always been fate's intention. She had the feeling from deep inside of her that these events of the day had already been set into motion millions of years ago. In the silence of the growing darkness she sat up between his legs, facing away from him. He ran his fingers through her hair then he folded his arms across her chest. She felt his heart pounding against his chest and pressed against her back thumping like a primal drum beat leading them to their destiny. As his arms wrapped around her his open palm came to rest upon her heart.
"Are you trying to touch my breast? Quietly she asked breaking the silence.
In just as quiet and relaxed tone he responded, "I feeling your heartbeat, it's not my fault that you are a woman. He inhaled very deeply then finished, "but I do very much enjoy the fact that you are a woman. He answered moving his hand to her breast.
Approaching the end of the wick the candle flickered madly and the world went dark.
