Screw The Seminar;
John splashed water in his face, dried it with a paper towel and stared
at himself in the bathroom mirror of the Prudential Assurance Head
Office. He sighed. It was nine o, clock and he shuddered at the full day
seminar he had to go through.Fuck he thought.I can,t stand this job.I
can,t stand listening to some bastard telling us the best way of
selling insurance to people who don,t even need it.He went into one of
the stalls and sat down.THere was no one about. He brought out a quarter
bottle of vodka from his jacket.Ah lovely he thought and took a long
swallow. The cold Russian liquid burned down his throat and hit the
spot.Another swallow and he,d be set up for the boring morning. He
burped and put the bottle back in his pocket. He flushed the toilet and
stood again at the mirror.Deep thought.Fuck it.He got hiscoat and went
out of the toilet and straight down the marble staircase. Before he
could think about it he was out in the Glasgow street.Freedom.What
now.His car was parked in the multi storey so he didn,t need to go home
for hours yet.He sought out a cafe bar and sat there for an hour or so
sipping coffee and reading a paper..Sod the lot of them.He had been
working up to this for a while. He checked his watch.Eleven.John
wondered what he,d do all day.He walked round the busy shops and bought
some cd,s.He even bought a new watch. The pubs were open.He picked a pub
that the rest of the sales team wouldn,t use and had a bar lunch and a
couple of Beck,s.The world felt better. What now?He left the pub and
strolled down Renfield Street. At the Odeon cinema they were showing the
Rocky trilogy all afternoon.Just the ticket. It was starting to rain
anyway. For the whole afternoon John sat in darkness with a couple of
cans of Fosters and his vodka. This was the life.He didn,t even feel
guilty.Six hours later the movies ended and he came out to the
sparkling streets of Glasgow. He buttoned up his coat and made his way
to the car park.Sod them.He had made his mind up to leave the job and
would tell them tomorrow. It had been a different sort of day and John
felt strangely free.
