Yesterday, while looking at the latest pictures of earth from Mars......
Before I continue let's just stop a minute and consider that particular gerund driven subordinate clause....
"looking at pictures of Earth from Mars"
The three prepositional phrases in that clause are nothing to be sneezed at either
1) at pictures
2) of Earth
3) From Mars.
Reflect....
Okay, let's continue.
When we see our beautiful blue planet, so small and vulnerable, it becomes clear that all of us here are Earthlings first.
Unless we are Martians.
Mars has been around for billions of years and during one of those epochs, probably supported microbial life but just not enough atmosphere to allow those microbes to flourish.
Then one day, a piece of rock broke off from Mars and made it to the earth where the microbes found an environment more condusive to flourishing.
In that case, every thing. Every plant, animal and human being is a Martian.
Martian or Earthling we are all the same under the false flags of cullture and classification.
If we toss those flags aside for a minute...and let's do that right now....then we are all in this together equally.
We are ALL in the same world so let's treat everyone and everything as citizens of this Martian/Earthen wonderland and pursue aims that are consistent with all of our individual rights to pursue our own aims towards the betterment of our lives.. Let's never treat others only as a means of what "I want" as we acknowledge our own and everyone self worth which means we're going to treat others in a way that we can apply to everyone consistently as freedom is the only unoriginated birthright of human beings and belongs to us by force of our humanity and is in dependence on the will and coaction of every other.
Can we do this categorically and make it imperative?
Yes we Kant.
