Land of Candy

I exerted pressure from my right hand onto the cold and glossy
wooden door. A remnant from the white paint chipped off and landed on
my gray chenille glove. I could almost see Jeremy's attractive smile as
he tugged the end of my atrociously messy French braid. I slowly closed
my eyes and laughed as my thick lashes gently tickled my sleek skin.
The heals on my shoes made a click as I protruded into the elegant
shop.
It smelled of various chocolates, licorices, and perhaps even
gumdrops. I exhaled, slowly, as the vision of a childhood memory filled
the capacity of my mind. Could Candy Land exist on Earth? I could
recall numerous stories about gingerbread houses compiled with
assortments of sweets, as well as one particular board game that
occupied much of my time as a child.
"All right, you may open your eyes," whispered Jeremy's sweet
voice.
I released pressure by lifting my eyelids and revealing a marvelous
sight. An ice cream parlor surrounded me with collections of
translucent jars filled with dime-store candy. I twisted my head to the
right, partially expecting Gene Wilder to stand besides a waterfall of
chocolate. Instead, a neat row of peppermint tables and sugary gumdrop
chairs stood inaudibly by a bay window.
It was more than I could handle. A world filled with sweetness and joy
merely existed within a child's imagination. There was a very slight
chance that I was still living on Earth.
As I swiftly sat down, I glanced out the bay window. The outside was
still composed of the cobblestones Jeremy and I had graciously strolled
down. The surrounding florist and bakery still existed beyond the
barren trees. This could not possibly . . .
"Here is your order of extremely warm hot chocolate, complete with
several twirls of whip cream and a hand full of M&;M's that we had
waiting just for you, mademoiselle," stated the candy man as he
positioned my beloved winter drink down on the peppermint swirl
table.
"How did you know . . ." I began.
"It's my job," He said and furtively winked.
As I tasted my delectable hot chocolate, one thought scampered
throughout my mind. If they want me to leave, they are going to have to
chase me.
