The Era

An era ended
You can’t bring it back
It’s gone
Like your diamond ring taken by tides
Of a selfish sea
And you think only of its return
That you will never tempt back
But when you had it
You had no sense of it
And now you pine
For days you didn’t know
Were rosy and rainbow filled
Those days you didn’t know
Were lighter and easier
You’re envious of yourself
The person in the picture
The things you had
And then the crash
Vibrates through your brain
An unwanted postcard
That someone keeps sending
And a stamp you want to destroy
What will be taken next?
You’re already anticipating
As you continue in mourning
But the present stays, wrapped up
Out of sight, shining
It shouts in a feeble voice
Its value hidden from your eyes
Its discovery, only in futures
Which sob in nostalgia for past
