From a White Rabbit

The first little days of Summer
could be the dark expanse
of biting Winter,
for the harvest is bare.
When the physical world is shaken
the spirit pours forth.
You,
like my words--
You,
like the fields I rummage,
like the gentle and murderous waters,
like the clouds of grey and white
that hang in the blue sky,
like the sun that gives all life--
You
are a blindingly beautiful reflection
of something else.
You have eyes
and in them eternity.
How perfect that they appear
in this hour of my hunger,
when physic hides.
That eternity in your eyes
is all the brighter.
Like a mirror.
Not reflecting my image
but my eyes--
an identical mirror.
A pair
made by the same hands
to live
side by side.
Our stare, my dear,
is a bottomless rabbit hole
of terrifying beauty
I pray for the courage
to hold.
Shed this world with me!
Take my hand
and skydive down this tunnel
to that place afar!
That place,
my dear,
is all we are.
