A Woman’s Prayer
Jennifer Pickup, 18.02.2026
Please do not touch or stand to crowd,
Don't get too close or talk too loud,
Listen to me when I say 'No.' –
Have the good grace to let it go.
Please do not stare or call across,
Push things too far and it’s your loss,
I’m weighing up the threat you pose,
That's just the way that my mind goes.
Please do not think you have a right
To take me home to yours tonight,
And please don’t claim that what I wear
Gives you the right to more than stare.
Please do not try to get me drunk,
To levels deep some men have sunk,
Please don’t react with violence,
If my rejection makes no sense.
A woman’s prayer for a man’s ears,
I hope you listen to my fears,
You cannot walk inside my truth,
This prayer it asks to be the proof.
Please do not think that I hate you,
I only hate the harm you do,
And I will always choose the bear,
Because your actions force me there.
