This Year (for 2026)
Jennifer Pickup, 30.12.2025
This year, there will be no more broken hearts,
I will place ceasefires on sick relations,
Refuse any further career departs,
And I won’t be ill for celebrations.
This year, I will not begin new courses,
There will be a ban on hip replacements,
I won’t put down any treasured horses,
I can’t indulge more living displacements.
This year, there will be no more life resets,
I will spend less time in hospital chairs,
Learn to embrace today without regrets,
I shan’t be weighted down with heavy cares.
This year, I will stop taking on too much,
I’ll rediscover long lost common sense,
Cease seeking empty symbols of good luck,
For they cannot ward off cruel consequence.
This year, there will be positivity,
I won’t stomach any family deaths,
Replace funerals with festivity,
I shan’t be witnessing any last breaths.
This year, not one more thing will start to ache,
Each day I’ll walk ten thousand steps or more,
Stop eating my pain before the scales break,
And quit drinking because my soul is sore.
This year, there’ll be unicorns and rainbows,
All of the clouds will have silver linings,
I’ll tell you a secret nobody knows:
These are the fruits of recent divinings.
This year, all pigs will fly and fish climb trees,
There will be sunshine even on dark days,
We will make only happy memories,
And the year will pass in a rosy daze.
