SYNCLINES AND ANTICLINES
By ARJUN BANERJEE, 15; LA MARTINIERE FOR BOYS, CALCUTTA, INDIA
Everything has turned so sour.
Family, pet, arcade games and even my favourite flower.
Everything seems foggy,
And I'm really feeling groggy;
a la Camus a Sisyphean struggle it is,
Purely existential, not even a hint of bliss.
Shiva, the destroyer, possesses me,
It is only red that I see.
Total Nihilism everywhere, Valhalla beckons me--I must be there!
Suddenly bright sunshine tears apart the clouds,
It is all over, hoorah, there is no doubt!
Unshackled at last I prance around
Making happy noises and many a weird sound.
"Doesn't it feel nice? Doesn't it feel nice?" while dancing I
shout,
"Don't you feel like singing your heart out?"
The responses spurt an emphatic "Yesss!"
It really isn't, though, a difficult guess.
MY EXAMS ARE OVER! I simply feel great,
What the future brings forth, is just a matter of fate!!

P.S. Arjun, you should be genuinely proud of your accomplishment. Of
the thousands of poems we read each year, only a fraction can be
published. We are pleased that "Synclines and Anticlines" will
appropriately achieve the recognition that a national publication can
give it."
