Killing a Fear of Dying

The eternal rest, the eternal sleep,
The eternal night, the deepest of deep;
The eternal Abeyance, the gateway to hell,
To finish an era as the toll of a bell.
The Eternal night, the eternal flight,
The blackest of shrouds, like the fleeing of Clouds;
To Live is to dream, as in death we awake
Whom of us now will the Good Lord forsake?
As I lie of the bed of my death,
As I let out by final most breath,
As I follow the Pied Pipers tune
As all my hopes and dreams are Hewn,
As death itself upon me creeps
As I close my eyes, the eternal sleep.
The Grim Reaper before me now doth stand
Its head pure black; held high in its hand
The scythe that from me my like will take
once it is felled no more I awake.
Is there a Heaven is there a Hell?
Whom but the dead can that notion tell?
For them and me, `tis now too late
I must learn to die, and accept my Fate.
I know that if I fight off death
Demons will come to take my breath,
And so I try to make my peace,
forgive those wrongs 'for I decease,
So Angels will come to free my soul
And give me Heaven as my goal.
As I look up, and see those I still love
My memories and loves of a life now gone,
Flying away on the wings of a dove
Their light in my eyes has always shone.
Now that I die I forget their love,
now that I die it all is Gone,
Now that I die I leave that Dove,
Whose light upon me also shone.
For the devils they burn our memories and goals
not to punish us, but free our souls.
