Ward 201

What do you do when your eyes are like leather?
Daydreaming glue to stick them together.
Scanning ward 201 to pick out your face,
Wiping mine of worries so you can't see a trace.
This evening to see you we came through the rain.
A drizzled grey stain of sky
Is all you can see through the glass.
We eat toffee to pass
The time
And I listen to your questions,
Jumbled suggestions…
Now I'm waiting for a hero
In a café, with a book,
Sending sudden looks
To the door
When not staring at the floor.
With eyes that are sore
With exhaustion.
