The door opens to a long and narrow corridor, the walls of glass so transparent ,that he thought there weren't any. He runs and runs, not finding another exit. Then, the corridor turns abruptly to the left leading to a stainless steel narrow staircase.
Without thinking twice he runs downstairs. With each step, the air becomes fresher and the place darker. And the stairs seems to lead nowhere. Just when Basil is beginning to freak out, the steps end abruptly in a conservatory full of purple plants. Some have golden apples and others green flowers ,with a strong musky scent. The air is very humid and all the windows are damp and mist up, so Basil can't see what's in the outside.
He walks among the strange plants, touching the purple leafs, smelling the green flowers, admiring the golden apples...He hears a rustle coming from behind a group of lush vegetation in the far end of the conservatory.
A small woman in a long ,green, velvet robe,is watering the plants with a golden watering can. She is very thin and has long, curled, red hair. Some basic instinct tells Basil that's better to hide from her. So he steps aside and hides behind the trunk of an African palm tree.
He hears a door being opened and the tall man that wanted him to sign the papers ,comes into view, and calls.
'Jessamine! Where are you, dear ?'
The lady in green comes forward, a smile on her face.
'Ah Jasper! Just in time! Did you get the papers
signed?'
Jasper's angry look falls on Jessamine's luxury dress.
'No! He escaped. He must be somewhere...' Jessamine sighs.
'Really? Well, he must be nearby. Are the watchmen looking for him ?'
Jasper nods his head.
'Yes! I'm sure they'll find him soon'.
Jessamine grabs his arm, and walks him out of the conservatory.
'Lets go for a walk!. I'm sure that when we come back, everything will be O.K.!'
Basil waits a couple of minutes and exits the place by the same door.
