Woes of a Vampire

Drinking the blood of innocents
Is never quite as nice
As it was the first time.
For the purposes of the undead, of course
It will suffice.
It's fine. But surely
There is more to immortality than this.
It's awkward, you know,
At a friend's dinner table. Anecdotes-
I break the ice with "Mother, I'm having a friend for tea."
"Oh, how nice, dear. Shall I bring you a napkin?"
And another thing that bothers me-
Living forever isn't all it's cracked up to be.
Things change oh so slowly
The news would bore me to tears, could I but shed them.
Little petty human affairs; all
"He said this" and "She did that" and
Not even a mention of the witches' eighty-third annual convention. Ah well.
My, my, look at the time- close to midday. I ought to get some rest.
On the way I might catch a light snack. Something warm and freshly murdered will do.
Hum...one child or two?
