Best Laid

I lit the faint flickering
candles
Raidiating soft ambient
light
Placed red wine by the warmth of the
fire
Stealing shadow and chill from the
night
I wanted to meld to your
heartbeat
To dissolve in your eminent
arms
Grant each desire you may
beckon
Submerge in your magical
charms
I hovered, washed, polished and
tided
Worried children and cats into
bed
Plumped up the sofa and
cushions
Placed aroma of musk bout your
head
I pampered and preened
Studied
and screened
Every inch of my moisturised
thighs
On warm skin I affected French
perfume
Adding evening storm to the sweep of my
eyes
I packed lunches, fed
dogs
Swathed satin on bed, ironed
togs
As well as the everyday
grind
There is nothing I haven't
perfected
Even our evening meal was
refined
You kissed and caressed me at
midnight
In the heat and the flame of the
fire
Scooped me in arms saturated in
charms
As each step of the stairs took us
higher
I fell to the yield of soft
satin
And awoke to fused eyeliner
Your snore, and wild hair
Christ
time is short and life's fleeting
But mostly it's
bloody unfair
