If Thought were Deed

Lying motionless and ashen
Immune to hurt and wasted tears
Understanding long awaited soars
Mind raw to absence through the years
An excess of questions loom
As realities of death unfold
Desolate hand soothes flaccid palm
As retrospect takes hold
"Why was I so blind to see?
What could I have done?
Once a father who could move mountains
Ignite the stars, transport the sun
Now broken into pieces
Treading water on oceans floor
I would give my own existence
If I only could do more!"
Life's cruel game is being played
Again
As it has since time began
It's devastation simply focused
On these lives, this single man
Creation bears a fatal flaw
And should time begin again
If hindsight was a force to wield
Within the minds of men
Then hunger would be memory
And sustenance would reign
Arid lands would flourish
No man or child would die in vain
Forests would be rectified
Dominance surpassed
Wars, disease, and malice
All figments of our past
If just a single consideration
Could transpire to fruitful deed
Power taken from the blind
Anaesthetized to need
Then this earth would be
As close, as ever, heavens door
Where mans considered ethics
Can ultimately do more
