Regret

Regrets like thorns and needles
Permeating skin
Opening up interior realms
Welting all within
Words spoken that fell silent
Dreams left to late to chase
Promises bowed to wishful thought
Cut short by deaths embrace
Kindness and kisses absent
Surplus and silent haunt
Actions poignant moments
Like playground bullies
Tease and taunt
Words spoken in abstract anger
Thrown as knives
In self defence
Now magnified, ten-thousand, times
Linger and incense
A simple word, a simple sentence
Paused by bitter fate
Replayed and reconsidered
Deliberation comes to late
Day by day has no set limits
And love respects, no bounds
Time itself seems never-ending
Regret has no resolve, once found
Its tortured tie, lies dormant
Its initiation is preset
Flooding in, rousing emotion
The tidal lappings of regret
Washing away the shorelines
Of calming peace of mind
No relent in expectation
No yield in past
No end to find
Never leave a thorn or needle
In time they penetrate your soul
Segregating thoughts and mind
Seeking memories to control
Apologies reticent
Turn into barbarous spear
I love you, suppressed in anger
Grows sharper year by year
A last kiss, caress, left pending
Festers deep inside
Tomorrow is forever, dependant
And loves forsake, a cruel abide
