The Surfer
It was dark and the moon giving the only light shone on the sea, giving
it an eerie look. The moon caught on a dark haired young girl say by
the edge of the wager. Her green eyes like emeralds shone out towards
the sea, looking at a blond surfer who glided soundlessly in. Her face
broke into a smile as he ran up towards her, his board under his arm.
Dropping to his knees next to her, they kissed, and as the darkness
folded its arms around them their kisses became more passionate.
Suddenly she pulled away, "Your getting me wet James".
Aren't I worth it".
"No" but she succumbed and they kissed again. "Now come on we better
get back".
"Come on then Miss Sensible". They began to walk back along the beach
hand in hand. They made a strange couple really. They tall slim, blond
haired surfer was very different from the level headed brunette who
thought for to long and to often. People often said James spent all day
with his head in the clouds and Anna spent all day using hers.
They finally arrived at Anna's caravan, "Bye".
"Bye" ,they kissed, "bye" they kissed again.
"Good-bye James".
"Will you dream about me tonight".
"I always do", they kissed again for the final time, then James melted
into the darkness, "I always do, She whispered.
That night Anna dreamt about James, but it was not the dream she wanted
to have.
"No" Anna woke up screaming, "James you can't leave me". Then as she
lay in the darkness she forced herself to remember. They'd been on the
beach with all their friends and James had been surfing. She'd come
back from getting a drink, and there she saw a crowd around someone.
Looking out she couldn't see James, then without realising it she had
been running down the beach to the crowd pushing her way through, her
eyes fell on the body - blemishless skin, slightly coloured by the sun
and blond hair. Clear blue eyes, like dolls eyes staring up at her,
wide open eyes "James", . . . and then she had woken up. Anna shuddered
again just thinking about it. She didn't sleep very well that night and
decided she would tell James the next day.
The sun was shinning and it was around 10 o'clock when Anna ventured on
to the beach, she was expecting to find a crowd of people and James
dead. But the sight that she met was completely different, the beach
was busy, but she picked James out easily. He stood at the edge of the
water pulling on his wet suit, Anna began to run down the beach towards
him, James, James don't go in".
James tuned, "Anna., the surfs up, I'll be back in a minute".
"James no". But it was to late and she watched as he waded into the
water, suddenly he turned and staring up at her he began to come back,
to where she stood. "Oh James" warping her arms around him tightly she
kissed him.
"well what a greeting". She loosened her grip slightly and asked,
"What made you come back?".
"I realised that you were more important then surfing".
"Oh James", she tightened her grip again.
"ok, ok you'll kill me in a minute". Taking her arms away immediately
she whispered, "I've got to talk to you".
James looked longingly at the water, "Can't it wait".
"No" Anna took his arm and walking back they sat on a large rock. Anna
then told him about her dream, when she had finished James laughed
"don't laugh at me".
"I'm sorry" James lent over kissing her gently on the head, "But you've
got to admit it is funny".
"no it isn't funny". Anna raided her voice slightly.
James still smiling said "you stopped me surfing for a dream".
"It was so real" Anna's voice dropped now and she looked close to
tears.
"Anna, honey, I'm fine, the surf isn't even that high". James rose to
leave.
"Please, James, don't go". Ann rose to go after him.
"Anna you're being silly".
"Anna watched as he walked away, racking her brains as to what else to
say to him, "If you love me don't go out there".
James stopped, turned, and shouted, "Anna don't be childish, you know I
love you but . . ." as his voice trailed off James turned and began to
jog down to the water edge. Turning Anna walked away.
An hour later Anna appeared at the edge of the sand. James was right,
he normally was, she was being silly. A dream, a silly little dream
that's all it was. Than she saw it - a crowd of people near the waters
edge, and as though she was still in that awful dream, she looked out
to sea frantically searching for James, but he was no where to be seen.
Without realising it Ann had began to run, and as she reached the cord
she pushed through. Her eyes fell on the body of a young man, tanned by
the sun with long blonde hair, "James " Anna's voice sounded hollow
than as her eyes were about to fall on the face of the body she felt a
hand on her shoulder, "Anna" she recognised the voice instantly.
"James".
"I'm sorry" was all he could say as she buried her face into his chest
and he wrapped his arms like a safety blanket around her.
