Day seven

And on the Seventh Day....
The Lord said to Moses:
It is time I sent my people a new prophet.
A new light to brighten
their otherwise empty lives.
I will give them a new freedom
to break the monotony
of those grey Sunday afternoons.
I will open Tesco's ;
that bright welcoming haven
of delight and fulfilment.
I will provide perpetual work,
and so prevent the inevitable rows
that develop when families are forced
to be together all day.
I will provide a greater choice.
A whole new era.
The people will no longer need to rush
to do their shopping on a Saturday.
The consumer will benefit.
The workers will benefit.
Most of all Moses, business will benefit.
And the Lord said this.
And the Lord did this.
And the Lord saw that it was good.
And sure enough almost instantly,
the people flocked to the new light,
inspired by the word of the advert,
and filled with joy at the sight
of potatoes at only ninepence a pound.
And the Lord looked down from his restroom
(for it was the seventh day)
and smiled at his people
who were unsure as to whether it was
the seventh, or the sixth,
or even the third day.
