Louise the pig farmer's wife

Look at her.
Louise,
with her pinny and her dishes
and her ever ready rubber gloves.
The perfect farmer's wife.

You'd never guess Louise
was trained in Law at Leeds,
and had ambitions
beyond Five Acres Farm.

But then she always said
she couldn't stand routine
and needed a Bohemian
to make her life less dull.
A painter, or a writer
was what she had in mind,
but John the farmer came along
with his pink and shiny piglet
and caught her heart
and talked her round
and made her what her what she is today:
a farmer's wife.

I sometimes stop and think about
her deep brown waist length hair
and wonder if she remembers back
before the screaming kids
to when she hated squealing pigs
and could have chosen
me.
