We woke up to some very sad news yesterday, the death of three people in a care home.
No one, health, happy, sad, hungry thirsty or angry, goes to bed and not expect to wake up. We knew nothing else about them. I did wonder if any of them were Staff. That would be terrible, to go to work, and die there.
I am glad it was on the main news, as The Main News.
We all know someone who has been in a care home, or know someone who has lived in one, or someone for whom a care home has been discussed as a possibility. We may even have visited someone in one.
There are SO many factors, with care homes, the people that live there, they are under the ‘care’ of a Manager and Staff, good or bad.
Having seen horrors on telly and on social media, I always thought, bad things about them in general, for the young and the old. I remember with my family I went to visit my god-mother in a beautiful care home in Blackpool. It was once a hotel, and very grand, she had her own beautiful bedroom with ensuite. The whole building was lovely, she was happy there and that was where she peacefully died. It was her cousin who had found that lovely place and got her in there quickly.
My friend has just got her elderly, dad into a care home, he is in his 90’s, it was difficult to find a care home for him, as they were only accepting people who were double incontinent and have dementia, he has neither. I asked her, “Have you managed to find a care a home for your dad?” She replied, “Yes, he moved in yesterday.” She told me the name of it, and I Googled it, the feedback was terrible!!! Everything about it was bad, it was like 0 out of 10, the pro was it is near to her home, just 5-minute drive away. I have known her lovely dad all my life, I hope he settles in well and make new friends.
On the news yesterday, it was mentioned that the gas company was also there, so it was reported that maybe the deaths could have been caused by carbon monoxide poisoning. That as we all know has no smell, it is also known as a silent killer.
Years ago, we had a carbon monoxide unit in our home. We haven’t had one for years, I think after yesterday, we should all protect ourselves by getting one in our homes and places of work.
