Cynthia.

I remember when a work mate took the two cats that he fed, they were not his cats. The two cats came everyday and he fed them, they never went inside his home. He decided to do the right thing for the cats he took them to the cat’s protection people, for them to have them, but he was told, “We want this amount of money for that cat and the same amount for the other cat.” He said, “I can’t afford that.” It was a very high amount, so as he was skint, he took the cats back and let them go back into the garden. He is kind, but not everyone is that kind.
Personally, I don’t in general like Traffic Wardens, some taxi drivers, and Vets! I think they are greedy for money.
Today I took Cythina our kitten to the vets to get her first needles. She was very brave, and on her best behaviour, she was good when she had her teeth checked, and, her ears, her bones, and she didn’t even finch when she had her first injection. Her second injection was booked before we left the room for 25th November. Then we will put her outside. It was her first time in the car, her cat basket was on Paul’s lap, and she could see me as I drove.
Surprising, the vets was empty, usually there are other cats and dogs there.
At the end of our short visit, we went to the reception to pay, she said, “That will be £95,” Like it was £0 I said, “Ninety-five pounds?” She said, “Yes,” Inside my head I said, “NINETY-FIVE POUNDS!!!!” I paid with my card. I was shocked inside.
On the way back home, Paul said, “At covid time, lots of people bought cats and dogs, so with SO many people now with cats and dogs, surely the price would have come down and not gone up!”
I agreed with him.
I see why the vets, was empty. Animals are now even more expensive to have and keep. I love buying the cat litters for Nanny our cat and Cynthia, I also love looking in the reduced section for nice treats for the cats and the dogs, to add to there dog and cat food. They look forward to their treats, bought with love, and shared out to them. I love buying new beds and bedding for the animals and I love it when different members of the family buy them toys! These are things, that are in my control, the vets, and their extortionate prices, they are not in my control.
I remember when both injections, cost £45!

I wonder if dogs
I wonder if dogs work out more expensive? Vets usually justify the astonomical fees as paying for their university training, and the good guys like to make you feel guilty for not looking after your pets properly.
But now what must you do? More expensive than kids, bills heaping up.
All the best! Tom

Is your vet an independent
Is your vet an independent one, or part of a group ? Over 60% of all vets are now part of a big group, whose only purpose is to make money. The vet I go to in Cirencester was started by three ladies, two vets and a nurse who had all been friends for years. They took a big risk and started their own business. They are lovely, lovely ladies who don't try to wring every penny out of you. Sometimes Lizzie vet would take my cat back to her own house for the weekend if he wasn't well enough to go home. She didn't charge me any extra. When I was too ill to take him to the vets she came here and picked him up. Again she didn't charge me. I wish all vets were like this, driven by love of animals and not money.
I temped as a vet's receptionist once, for 6 weeks. I thought it would be all about the animals, but it was all about trying to sell the owners food and insurance. I was so disillusioned.
I don't know if you know, but the government has commissioned an enquiry into vet's charges and practices, here's the link :

Exotic vet bills are
Exotic vet bills are outrageous. All my babies are exotics. I'm down $20 just walking through the door. Last year I built insulated shelters for the squirrels and stray cats. Well, that's all. Thanks for the read.

I have English friends who
I have English friends who live in France and their vet bills - donkeys/horses/pigs/goats/cats/dogs/you name it - are massively lower than in the UK. She thinks it's because they don't really have pet insurance in France. I certainly know from my experience here that the first thing the vet says after making a diagnosis is 'Is he insured ?'. I'm sure if you say yes, then they bump the price up, and often perform procedures / prescribe medicines they wouldn't have done otherwise, because they know the insurance company will cough up. (This is one of the issues being investigated in that government enquiry I mentioned above). The result is that prices in the UK go up for everyone, even if you don't have insurance.

Do you have veterinary
Jack - Do you have veterinary insurance in America ?
I remember you saying your animals are all geriatrics. In the UK insurance premiums (which are bad enough anyway) go up ridiculously once your pet gets to middle age.
Well done for looking after the feral cats. Another link between you and EH.

Yep, but the premiums are too
Yep, but the premiums are too high. I petted one of the polydactyl cats at the Hemingway house at Key West.

We have polydactyl cats here
We have polydactyl cats here in the UK, especially in the west. I've seen quite a few. My vet had one who lived in the surgery, she was called 'Digit'. The legend is that they were popular on wooden sailing ships because the extra claw helped them cling on to the deck. Whatever the truth, there are certainly clusters of them around old ports such as Bristol.
