Please laugh in her face

I'm not going to tell you that April phoned.
I know what you will say. 'Of course she did,
and I bet you answered and I bet you didn't make
any excuse or say 'this is getting silly now, the cost
of the train tickets, the inconveience, the loss
of an evening once a month when we could be at home
watching a John Le Carre adaptation or one of the things we like
with people cooking, I bet you didn't let it go to voicemail
and let the next one go to voicemail and when the next one
goes to voicemail she'll realise maybe I should stop now,
you'll say of course April has been in touch, haven't I had
enough Aprils in my life, there is always another April, always
an event, yet anotherĀ of our weekday evenings when I cook
and you get on with things or when I get on with things
and you cook it really doesn't matter as long as we're together,
the two of us, as long as we're together
me and you at home.
