A  shot into his vein and a rush into the brain,

invisible he became

lying there in the pouring rain  .

The sound of sirens came ,

they found him in the  lane ,

with a needle in his arm ,

they turned off their alarm ,

 

Just a boy from a county farm

he never saw any harm

of using heroine ,

that took his life from him .

 

Left out in a  lane

with nothing to his name

except for a fit and a bag of white

left behind in the  night .

 

 

Time ticked no more

and the addict was picked like a flower

for a garden in the sky

and a new star began to shine that night

 

.In the traffic late at  night ,

a red and blue flashing light

cut in between the fast lane

on the freeway in the rain .

 

The patient in the back

had suffered a heart attack

on the way to the hospital

things became critical .

 

They  looked so dark and thin

as the ambo’s wheeled them

into the hospital where hey both lay there ,

the addict and the millionaire

both upon a similar bed ,

a  doctor smiled and said

on one thing you can depend ,

we’re all equal in the end .

 

Time ticked no more

for the millionaire who lay there

and  somewhere high  above

another star began to shine so bright  .
