Chapter 2
The Christmas Gift
It was always busy in the Sarcans home . They had nine children and every day before Mr Sarcan went to work there was a lots of things happening .
Breakfast for the children before they went to school , lunches to make , clothes to wash , bags to back and last minute alterations on homework before the children went to school .
On one of those busy mornings , just two weeks before Christmas
the phone rang early and Mr Sarcan answered the call .
It was his employer who offered a big cut in his annual salary .
He was given no time to negotiate it was a yes or no answer .
His boss mentioned her was cutting back cost’s of running this company .
Mr Sarcan who’s already getting paid the minimum wage accepted the pay cut graciously .
He knew it would be too difficult to say no because there would be no way he could start looking for another job until the new year .
The following day Mr Sarcan’s employer handed him a bill for tools and other equipment he was using in the factory .
His employer said , the tools were extras outside of his contract
The following day Mr Sarcan had to endure a long verbal abuse and insults from the foreman of the factory who kept mentioning how lucky he was to still have a job and that he wanted more effort and better results even though Mr Sarcan was already doing his best and working longer hours to keep his job .
It was a week before Christmas when Mr Sarcan was terminated from his job on the spot for unsatisfactory work performance his pay cheque was a lot less than expected . The employer stated deductions were made because of his poor work performance . There was barely enough money for Mr Sarcan
to pay rent and buy food for the week ahead .
That evening as Mr Sarcan sat at the dinner table , all his young children handed him all their letters to post for Santa.
He still hadn’t told anyone’s that he lost his job .
The next morning he went out the door like he had done for years as if he was going to work but instead of going to the factory here to a little church near the factory and got down on his knee’s and asked God to help him
in his difficulty . On the way out of the church he found a ten dollar note sitting there at the feet of a statue of St Jude by the door of the church .
After he left the church he stopped and bought a lottery ticket before walking through the streets seeking work from some other factories in the area .
He left his contact details every place he went just in case they might need someone in the new year .
It was Christmas Eve when Mr Sarcan had a phone call from the state lottery office to tell him they he was the only winner of the Christmas gift lottery .
In the new year he noticed a for sale sign on the factory where he had been working and he made an offer which was accepted he began manufacturing the same product his previous employer had been doing but he sold it much cheaper that his old boos had been doing .
One morning and his old boss walked into his office for a job interview and soon began working there for Mr Sarcan who was now a wealthy man and was able to provide a comfortable life for all his family .
