Omega Cave Letter 1

My Dear David,

My life is in danger but I care not. Not anymore. How can anyone hide
the truth and magnitude of these scrolls? Certainly they do not contain
documents supporting the Jewish heritage and accuracy of the Torah as
the other 11 caves but the extraordinary tales of the early Christian
believers is fascinating. The IAA has successfully kept the caves
discovery and contents a secret for more than 50 years.

As you know, I am an interpreter for the museum and was granted access
to the scrolls you now possess because of my language skills and devout
Jewish faith. They are not scrolls from the original 11 caves as I have
long led you and everyone else to believe. They are scrolls that I and
I only have been granted full access. The authorities believed the
scrolls would not pollute my mind but what they did not realize is that
they could not protect my heart. Neither did I. After 2 years of secret
study and interpretation on these scrolls my heart came to the
conclusion that Jesus of Nazareth was indeed who He claimed to be! The
paradox of my strict Jewish mind being in direct competition with my
heart that cries out, "It is true! It is true! He was the Messiah and
we killed him!" May God forgive us as a nation and may the Lord not
seek vengeance upon his disobedient people.

Every month each interpreter must file a report with the Chief Curator
and provide a copy to the IAA. At first I drafted reports based on the
truth of what I had read but I quickly realized that the truth is not
what they wanted to hear. They were looking for anything to support
their theory that these were all writings of a madman or prodding me to
hurry and find some evidence that Jesus of Nazareth was not the Son of
God. Every Monday, I failed. My labor continued&;#8230;the scrolls
were in decent shape but still required my full attention to ensure
accurate interpretation. (Disregard the comments at the end of the
scrolls, I had to include them on the scrolls to ensure they thought I
was still loyal and unaffected by the exposure.) My real thoughts are
included in my private journal that I have enclosed for your safe
keeping.

How this smaller band of men of Qumran gathered these precious
letters, songs and prayers without letting the other ultra conservative
Jews within the community know what they were doing is a miracle
itself. Evidently, they were trained as an elite group of spy's of the
"Sons of Light" and were sent abroad to collect Jewish works of faith,
including stories. They must have been very good indeed at collecting
these documents and stories for there are many more than what you have
before you now. Their need for secrecy drove them to seek a new hiding
place away from the original caves. I presume they were allowed only
infrequent visits and thus had to focus more attention on the
preservation of the documents and that is why they are among the best
of all the scrolls of the Dead Sea. The entire contents of this cave
cannot be released at once. It is too risky for me and too much for you
to absorb at once. It has taken me years to grasp the magnitude of
these special documents. However, Jar One is an excellent glimpse into
the riches of this ancient library. It must be shared, even at the cost
of my life.

I've enclosed a copy of my original manuscript with my notes, it also
contains a secret memo and an official inventory that will give you
insight into the seriousness of what I have done in sending this to
you. You must promise me that you will protect yourself and these
scrolls by keeping this a secret. Do not even tell your mother. You
remind me of Paul's young Timothy, your hunger for truth and zeal for
the Lord made you the perfect choice to be the first person other than
myself to read these wondrous documents. Your ability to believe in the
old ways and in Jesus Christ as Messiah is the chief reason I have
chosen you as the caretaker. Read them and benefit from them but do not
tell anyone else of their existence until I have sent you all the
scrolls. You are precious to me and to our Lord, may He continue to
bless you and protect you from any harm.
