My mind's dawn
By mercy

And so it was,
I stared at the first morning light the other day,
Gazed with a shade of wonder,
At the colors wrapped up
In shades of gray-black,
And the shadows of the night just done.
And there I saw
That the colors were unraveled
In splendor beyond compare
I saw richly scented beams
in reeds and greens,
Or so it seemed
And I beheld
Sparkles, and shimmers
stripes in red
spit-fire-y red and blood-shot
Or so it seemed..
And I wondered
As the colors broke through
the blues
In my poignant cheerless soul,
Blues from ages past,
Of yesteryears
And the farthest unknown;
Fluid blues that melted
Within the sadness
Of the pieces of a broken soul
So harsh these blues have since been,
Yet so mellow these blues I sing
So wearied and worn,
So tattered and torn..
And the colors seemed to change
But only in shades
Of a deeper black
And strangely so..
A little merrier
As it got brighter
And lighter by noon-day light.
