A tale of a love forbidden
By mercy
- 356 reads
We come halfway across life
Conscious of all the contradictions
Offered by love and life's demands
Like a slow dance, your presence is light
Yet filled with passion,
Such delight!
Months go by
The dance is slow and sure
You woo me with a look in your eye
That locks my knotted heart in twists
Of feelings tossed in the dark
And the pain in my past
You hold me close
And see the shadows of my being
Reading through this fa?ade
You make me smile
And hold my trembling hand
Struggling to stay put
Upon that which I thought I knew
You move my soul
And I smile and sigh
Desperate to cover the hurt
Of love I watched go by
Time and time again
Then you hold my heart
With the beauty of your smile
And kiss the hurt away
With the touch of your hand
And though the pain takes its sweet time
You still love the wounds of a broken faith
But the shadows in my conscience
Whisper in my ear
Saying beware of this love
Its unyielding path
Of pain wrapped up
In a cloud of a thrill
Of a love forbidden through time
So how can my conscience be wrong
When through the night
You touch me so right
And fill the darkness with light
And how can I say I'm wrong
When all I do is dance, lost in your thrill
In the safety in your arms
Strengthened by your charm
So why I'm I walking away
And feeling the loss
Of a love that cannot be mine
Of that which is here today
And gone in the wind of time
Why would this conscience
Not let me be?
It says in a tone so sad
But with a meaning oh so clear
That if I take for myself
That which belongs to another
I deserve nothing less
Than to be robbed of the joy
Of the purity of love
And all the peace it ought to bring
