Somebody's Someone

That was somebody's someone.
Somebody's uncle, father, cousin or son.
But when you pulled the trigger, followed through and felt the recoil of the gun
You just killed somebody's someone.
We relate more to the soldiers we oppose than to the leaders we battle them for,
Leave that resonate for a moment or more.
They're only human, they have emotions, fears and feelings too.
They have hobbies, friends and families just like you.
What if they are unwilling participants in this war
But are governed by a leader not too dissimilar from yours?
Alas, somebody's someone is gone, just another victim of the mindless slaughter,
another tearful mom explaining national pride to her daughter.
Is national pride on that little girl's mind when nobody tucks her in tonight?
No.
I know what she would rather;
for somebody's someone to be revived because that someone is her father.
